GIPPSLAND - NATURAL DISCOVERY

Linked to major highways, is the wonderful Gippsland. Boasting of beautiful mountain rivers and ranges, rolling green hills and pasture lands, this place has a variety of national parks and lakes. The place also displays the majestic shoreline from Phillip Island to the lakes region.

The East - Lakes & Wilderness

The Eastern corner of Victoria houses lakes and wilderness areas. Here, one comes across a variety of diverse interests. One can enjoy the calm beaches and the sandy shores at one moment and the snowy cool cliffs at the next. There are extensive waterways and unique national parks too.

The Lakes
The Gippsland Lakes system is has a vast array of waterways to explore. The waterways have become a favorite pastime for the tourists in East Gippsland. Boating is one activity, which appeals to all and is a popular sport here. There are boats available on hire and various waterways to explore. Among the other easily accessible and enjoyable activities are surfing, water-skiing, swimming and windsurfing. These activities are carried on in best ocean beaches of the southern hemisphere. Fishing is yet another sport that pulls thousands to this land.

The Wilderness
This region boasts of being the only region with the largest number of national and state parks. The region covers an area of over 1 million hectares of public owned land. This exciting place offers stunning views from the coastal salt water parks like Croajingolong and Cape Conran to the high mountain Cooprecambra National Park and the Errinundra cool temperate rainforests.

The Northeast - Legends, Wine & High Country

Many legendary Australians are associated with the northeast area. Gold Fever is a legendary part of the region's past. Beechworth and Eldorado are monumental reminders of the richness of gold in the area.

Wine
The Northeast has gained wide popularity for its ability to produce quality wines. The excellent climate, soil variations and altitude are conducive for growing almost every variety of grapes. This area produces fine table wines and champagnes along with exquisite ports and muscats. Rutherglen, Milawa and Glenrowan are the places, well known for their wines and gourmet foods.

High Country
High Country possesses magnificent mountain areas that begin just north east of Melbourne and continue right through to the New South Wales border and beyond. This alpine area in Australia proudly displays winter playgrounds of Mount Buller, Mt Stirling, Falls Creek, Mount Buffalo and Mount Hotham.

The warmer months witness carpets of wildflowers and waterfalls. The unique plateau formations of the Australian Alps are a treat to the eyes of the walkers, as they enjoy the exhilaration of being on the rooftop of Australia.

Breathtaking views and intriguing landscapes are available at this place for photographers and artists. The tourists are treated to fresh air and a relaxing atmosphere. The high country areas offer many recreational activities.
