GOLDFIELDS

The place is just an hour's drive through the Western Highway from Melbourne. It is bounded by Ballarat, Bendigo, Stawell, St Arnaud and Ararat. The region proudly boasts of providing entertainment to adventurers and historians. It also displays wide and rich art and culture.

The Sovereign Hill at Ballarat is a living museum of a town of 1850's reputation. The newest attraction at this place is the Great Southern Woolshed, opened November '95. This place portrays the rich heritage of the Australian wool industry. The Goldfields towns have extravagant architecture and showpiece gardens. Australia's only civil battle took place, Ballarat.

The wine-producing region incorporates Avoca, the Grampians, Ararat, the Pyrenees, Moonambel and Redbank. The heart of the Central Goldfields is Maryborough, which links to Ballarat, Bendigo and the Pyrenees. The place is a perfect combination of history and scenery. Activities that are most famous here are fishing, bush walking and cycling.
