The North-West, Oasis Country

The north-western corners of Victoria including the south-west of New South Wales comprise to form the oasis country. The area encompasses six major regions namely the Broken Hill, Golden Rivers, Horsham, Mallee, Mildura and Swan Hill. To the north of the oasis country is the Broken Hill known as 'Silver City'. The place is very genuinely, an oasis in the desert.

Excellent camping and fishing activities are available in the Golden Rivers Region. The townships of Barhamin (NSW) and Kerang are surrounded by the lakes, rivers and wetlands of this magnificent area. Towards the south, is Horsham, with its spectacular ranges and National Parks. The region is an ideal place for scenic drives, bushwalking and rock climbing.

National parks are mostly found in the Mallee region which lies to the south of Mildura. The major attractions at this place are the Murray-Sunset and the Hattah-Kullkyne parks which is a stunning sight to see with their virgin landscapes. The Sunraysia Region houses the Mildura. It has a Mediterranean-style of climate and plays the abode to extensive vineyards and citrus groves.

Swan Hill, an attractive town nestled on the Murray River, is a source of enjoyment for those who love the outdoors. The place houses Australia's first outdoor museum, the Pioneer Settlement.
